Weekend alone - part 1
It’s just me and the dog. Dean has left the country, and should shortly be arriving in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Tomorrow he’ll board a tiny plane and fly across (and around) remote tropical jungle mountains, before starting the Kokoda Trek. After he leaves Port Moresby there’s no contact except by satellite phone - and that’s only in case of emergency. I can deal with him being away, it’s the remote / jungle / mountainous / uncontactable-ness that sits like a lump of anxiety in the back of my mind. Wally, meanwhile, keeps looking for Dean. This morning whilst I was having breakfast he sat staring down the hallway waiting for Dean to come down the stairs, and now he’s sitting by the front window, waiting for him to come home.
It’s cold. I can’t turn the heater on because the thermostat is out of batteries. We use rechargeable batteries but none a currently charged. Waiting for the little green light to stop blinking so I can put the batteries back in the thermostat and then get this house to a temperature where I can’t see my breath. I’m a tad impatient about this.
My face is covered in makeup - though thankfully it doesn’t feel like it. I’m done with the ‘things to keep myself occupied over the weekend’ tasks - a physio appointment and then a makeup trial. I really like the beautician, she’s local and down to earth, and although I think she did a great job with the makeup, she didn’t charge me because she’s not happy with the result. That being said, on a day to day basis I wear so little makeup anything looks great compared to what I can do myself! I go in again on Wednesday night for another trial.
So, my ‘things to keep myself occupied over the weekend’ were done by midday. Seems like it might be a long weekend…
